LGVFD Receives Gear Donation!

Dec 9, 2025

The Laguna Vista Volunteer Fire Department recently received seven new sets of turnout gear, totaling $27,750. We extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Texas Forestry Service for providing a grant that covered all but $2,800 of the cost. With this gear it will allow the fire fighters to continue to do their job and protect the community while they too are being protected. The gear will remain compliant for the next 10 years.

This gear like most are composed of 3 layers. The first and most outer layer is rated to resist flames, cuts, and tears. The second or middle layer is the moisture barrier. Its purpose is to keep water, chemicals, and most pathogens from reaching the skin. The third and most inner layer is the thermal layer. It is specialized in preventing the outer heat such as heat from a fire to enter the gear while allowing the body heat to escape.
